PART II GENERAL LEGISLATION Chapter 194, VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, ARTICLE V, Removal and Storage of Vehicles

194-18.  Authority to impound vehicles.

 

When any vehicle is parked or abandoned on any highway in this Village during a snowstorm, flood, fire or other public emergency which affects that portion of the public highway or parking lot upon which said vehicle is parked or abandoned, or when any vehicle is found unattended on any highway in this Village where said vehicle constitutes an obstruction to traffic, or when any vehicle is parked or abandoned on any highway in this Village where stopping, standing or parking is prohibited, said vehicle may be removed by or under the direction of any police officer of this Village to any place or garage designated by the Chief of Police. 

 

194-19.  Storage and charges.  [Amended 6-10-2003 by L.L. No. 1-2003]

 

After removal of any vehicle as provided in this article, the Police Department may store such vehicle in a suitable place at the expense of the owner. Such owner or person in charge of the vehicle may redeem the same upon payment to the tow service of the amount of all expenses actually and necessarily incurred in effecting such removal. Removal charges shall not exceed $60 together with any additional storage charges. Storage charges shall not exceed $15 per day, and at least the first 12 hours of storage shall be at no charge. 

 

194-20.  Notice of removal.

 

It shall be the duty of the Police Department to ascertain to the extent possible the owner of the vehicle or the person having charge of the same, and to notify him of the removal and disposition of such vehicle and of the amount which will be required to redeem same.
